This award supports independent or collaborative research at Brazilian universities, research institutes, and, in special cases, NGOs. U.S. professionals, artists, and scholars with no or little academic or professional experience in Brazil are encouraged to apply.

The Fulbright Commission welcomes projects in all parts of Brazil, specifically beyond the urban areas of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
